First day of the interactive video workshop

wkvideointeractiveD1-2The interactive video workshop lead by Renaud Vercey and Bruno Voillot with the help of Mohamed Youssef has begun on monday at the French Cultural center of Alexandria. The participants will work on the creation of a interactive DVD dealing with the aesthetics of futurism within the city of Alexandria. After a first day of discussion and the discovery of the specificity of multimedia forms, they are today shooting material in the city.

The participants of the workshop  are :

Nancy Adel is a 22 years old student at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Alexandria (painting) and also a theater actress. She participated in many theater workshops and theatrical plays. She also has an experience in cinema, as an actress, as a director’s assistant, and as a production assistant.

Mayye Zayed is 24. She studied Communication and electronic engineering and is now studying cinema at the Jesuit Cultural Center of Alexandria. She participated in many cinema/video related workshop, in Alexandria and Cairo, and also worked as a website designer.

Ayat Elmihy studied political sciences at Cairo University, while following painting and movie making courses. She directed a first documentary film about Alexandria, called « Life and well being », that has been screened at the Cairo Opera and at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.


Karim Shaaban
is 19. He studies Information Technology in Thebas Academy in Cairo and is also a film maker a digital artist, and a graphic He was part of the Egyptian artists selection for the Skopje Biennal in 2009.

Sara Hany Abed is 23. She studied fine arts (painting) at the University of Alexandria. She participated in photography and installation workshops, and various exhibitions. She was chosen among the egyptian delegation for the Skopje Biennale in 2009. She developped art activities with children of special needs.

Lamyaa Moghazy is 23. She’s a visual artist who participated in RAMI platform in Alexandria and Beirut. She studied at the painting department of the Faculty of Fine arts in Alex and participated in several workshops related with animation and sound and image on the web. Her works was showed in Alexandria and she was part of the egyptian artists selection at the Bari Biennal in 2008.

Mona Mahfouz is 35. She’s studying painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Alexandria. This is her first participation in a video art workshop. She took part in various painting, and artistic workshops.

Medhat Elsoudy is 36, he studied at the Fine Arts Faculty of Alexandria. He is a member of the syndicate of Fine artists and a teacher at the Fine Arts Faculty (painting). His works were exhibited in Alexandria and his video screened in France and he was rewarded many prizes. Mohamed Youssef

artiste indépendant

Mohamed Youssef est un artiste indépendant égyptien, qui pratique l’art en général et a travaillé plus récemment sur la réalisation de livrets d’artistes et sur des œuvres numériques, mettant en avant l’interactivité avec le public. En 2006, artiste invité du Festival Arborescence, il présente un espace interactif, « la Table- A la recherche du temps perdu », qui sera de nouveau exposée à Beyrouth en octobre 2007. Il est aujourd’hui impliqué dans le projet RAMI et a participé en mai 2007 à un workshop à Beyrouth pour développer son projet « Les Particules », qui consiste en une gestion interactive partagée entre sons, mouvements et public.

In 2006, Mohamed Youssef has been invited with Sharif El Sayed to the digital arts Festival Arborescence. in Aix en Provence-Marseille. Therefore, they presented they work, an interactive space, « la Table- A la recherche du temps perdu » -The table in the quest of lost time. Audience can be active in the process of the exhibition. The Table will be exhibited again in Beyrouth in October 2007 in the frame of RAMI, and in November 2007 in the frame of RAMi integrated in the Arts international biennale in Alexandria. Mohamed Youssef is implicated in the RAMI Project: he took part in May 2007 in a workshop in Beyrouth in order to develop his project « the Particles », that consists of an interactive management joining sounds, movements and public. For this new work, still in progress, Mohamed Youssef has been invited in residence in ZINC/ECM in Marseilles in September 07 in order to develop his concept.

Bruno Voillot

Bruno Voillot vit et travaille à Marseille depuis 1997 d’abord auprès de mineurs clandestins dans le quartier Belsunce puis d’adultes psychotiques dans le Lubéron. Il travaille depuis 6 ans dans un centre d’accueil et de soins pour toxicomanes dans le centre ville où il anime un atelier consacré à la création radiophonique. Travaille à l’élaboration théorique et pratique des questions relatives à la création et à la schizophrénie. Il participe à POSITION(S) en octobre 2001 où il conçoit une installation sonore en multidiffusion.

Mohamed Salah

Réalisateur, Egypte

Mohamed Salah est né à Alexandrie en 1979. Diplômé de la Faculté de psychologie d’Alexandrie, il étudie le cinéma au Centre Culturel Jésuite avec le SEMAT -groupe de production- de 2003 à 2005. Il a travaillé en tant qu’assistant réalisateur avec de nombreux professionnels, et participé à plusieurs workshops, ainsi qu’à une résidence artistique à l’association Makan en Jordanie. En 2006, il réalise son premier long-métrage, « Goozor » (Iles), produit grâce à une bourse de l’association El Mawed. En 2007, il participe à la Berlinale Talent Campus 5# organisée par le festival international du film de Berlin. Il travaille actuellement dans le département médias de la Bibliothéca d’Alexandrie et poursuit en parallèle ses projets de réalisation : un nouveau film portant sur les immigrés clandestins tentant de rejoindre l’Europe depuis les côtes nord africaines, et la création d’une base de données pour la jeune création vidéo en Egypte.

Mohamed Salah is born in 1979 in Alexandria, he’s a graduate of the Psychology Faculty, at the University of Alexandria. He studied movie making at the Jesuit Cultural Center and the SEMAT from 2003 to 2005. He worked with many professionals as an assistant director, and took part in many workshops, among which an artistic residency at Makan, Jordania. Since 2005, he has worked on many media support. He won a grant from El Mawed El Saqqafi association, in order to produce his first feature length film, « Goozor ». In 2007, he participated at Berlinale Talent Campus 5# which organised by Berlin International Film Festival. Nowadays, he’s working at the Media department of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, while developping in parallel his projects : one of them is dealing with the situation of illegal immigrants in Europe, and the other is the development of a database on young egyptian video creation. Most of his movies are inspired by Alexandria, and the changes it is going through, turning it into a much more distant and strict city.
